All of the virtues of Advent hang on Love. We light the candles, all four. We trace the promise. We reflect on the first Advent. We count the days. We light the candles. We wait. We hope. We pray.
All over the world, candles are being lit. Homes, churches, and the likes are glowing with the candlelight of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. And I am filled with wonder at the thought of how the global church is lighting up the earth.
I need a little extra wonder tonight. I watch my living room fully aglow as all of the candles are flickering together bringing the most light. I see the beauty in the simplicity of these four candles. I see the power in remembering just how good God is to me. I see the importance of not rushing through the season. And I am grateful that God’s timing is perfect.
We only know love because love was made known to us. He is Love with us today, love with us tomorrow, love with us always.
“Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight, At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more, When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death, And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:1
Jesus thank you for the love you give without hesitation and thank you for all of the ways you sing over us. Help us to love better, to love well. May our hearts linger in the wonder of your love.
